Jeep was dropped off with his new family and new home this evening and is settling in nicely. He walked in like he'd been there before (he had been) and I knew he'd taken it all in stride! Here are a couple shots of him running amuck in the yard with my dogs last night in between rain storms.
Thanks to Karen and her family for taking in this boy!

It Looks Like....
Jeep will be going to his new home on Tuesday. We did a visit and home check on Friday and all went well with him and his new dog sister and he didn't pay the kitties any attention either. He'll have a lovely huge back yard and a Mom that only works part time.
To that end I got some pictures of the Jeep-man to share....from the front yard here tonight.
He's pretty freakin cute!

One Week Plus in Foster
Here are a few more tidbits we are learning about Jeep. One is, he does like to play if the other dogs will play as well but if not, he loves to play with his people! His fetching limit is about 3 throws and then he gets distracted and forgets he was to bring the item back. LOL But he loves loves loves the interaction!
He loves his stuffed animals and smaller is better. He will have a bunch that will go with him to a new home! Sorry for the blurry phone shot here - he also is a ham and when the phone or camera comes out he starts playing it up!
The one week mark is a point where foster Mom tries leaving him out with the other dogs during the day. She has a 'spy cam' and can see how things are going when not at home. The consensus is not surprising. Jeep is used to always being with his person (his trucking owner) and not having the run of the house. He was given a 2X4 xpen with a top when he arrived in foster where he happily stayed with his bone, toys and blankie. His first day left out with no pen resulted in pacing and carrying on after Mom left (and for a good part of the morning). Day two however was a total success and he yodeled for a bit after Mom left (all my cresteds do) but settled in for the day! Woop!
So here is a phone shot of Jeep after his first face shave. No, it isn't a requirement but it is another of those things that we'd like to know how he handles before adoption in case his new family likes the look. He did absolutely fine and even though the job isn't the best, mission was accomplished!
Jeep's weight loss plan is going well and he's doing just fine on it and not showing the "oh I'm starving" signs! LOL He also is settling in on a lap better in the evenings.
Potty training is going super. Again, not sure what the problem is. He is in a belly band during the long days but doesn't really want to pee in it, however if it is off for 10 hours he will pee somewhere. It is taken off when Mom gets home and he goes in and outside to potty as he should. He will use the dog door but since most homes don't have that option, Mom makes sure to get up part way through the evening and let them all out the big door and he does just fine.

Meet Jeep
Jeep came into foster this week as an owner turn in and is looking for a wonderful active forever home. He is a hairless chinese crested. Here is some of his story which will be updated as time goes on until he is happily adopted.
Jeep is currently fostered in Helena, MT and you can contact his Mom at the email link on the right. Potential families will be required to fill out an adoption application and regional adoption is preferred (or if you are thinking a MT vacation is in order!). Knowledge of the breed is very helpful (experience will not be necessary but please do your research as this boy deserves a FOREVER home). Foster Mom is happy to help with that knowledge, ask the questions you have if you are seriously considering becoming his new family!
Here's the low down:
Jeep is approximately 4 years old and has been with his previous owner since puppyhood. Dad is a small town long haul trucker that is known to kind of cycle through dogs and not keep them for their entire life. So anyway, Jeep has lived most of his life on the road and Dad loved him none the less so he has not been abused at all. Jeep is neutered but is indeed a crested boy (who are rather hard to housebreak anyway) and Dad said he couldn't take Jeep peeing on things any longer (which experience has told me may or may not be the case).
To that end, take that for what it might (or might not) be, (part of rescue is understanding that humans will say and believe what they need to accomplish what they feel they need to).....those that understand dogs understand that neutering doesn't magically fix that, it requires training which will be started at his foster home and small dogs with small bladders should not be expected to go for 8 or 10 hours at a stretch with no potty breaks. In the meantime he does wear a belly band (new to him) while he is home during the day without access to the outdoors (as I mentioned small bladders just can't last 8 or 10 hours). He also was not raised on a "schedule" for eating and pottying and wasn't fed the best of diets (apparent by the food sent with him and his weight on arrival). While at foster he is learning to sleep in a crate (but honestly if you have a bed with a blankie he can sleep under he's in heaven), has done really well in an expen during the day (keeping him safe and sound) and being left without his belly band and with access to the outdoors in the evenings and weekends. So far he's not marked in the house at all but at day 2 we are making sure to get up and encourage him to go outside every couple hours.
Now the fun stuff! This boy has personality plus!!! He enjoys being active and will play with people and dogs if they will join him. He loves personal attention but he will not be a quiet laid back lap dog either. He enjoys playing with his stuffed toys and will fetch for a little while with you. He knows his name and his tail goes almost constantly. He is a wiggle worm when you try to hold him and do things he may not enjoy but he isn't nasty about anything. We did his nails and gave him a bath with just wiggles and still got smiles and wags after. Oh yeah did I mention he "grins"!
Jeep will walk on leash but he doesn't know any other commands but also doesn't seem to have any really bad habits either. He loves raw bones and his blankies (as any good crested does). He can easily jump over an 24" baby gate and is amazingly agile considering the weight he is carrying (he's a solid 15 pounds and needs to lose probably at least 3-5 pounds). We are working on that, one small meal a day does not seem to be a problem for him at all so it will come off and he is getting much more exercise as well.
He really loves human attention even more than dog interaction but will be fine with a working family as long as he gets attention when they are home (and he will ask for it). As his foster Mom can spend a bit more time evaluating him you will learn more about him here! Please share!
